Montreal, August 30, 2026. Following the studio introduction, Tangram HQ Studio looks back at the origins of Olivi, its meal planner. The project began in the spring of 2026, with a question most households ask every day, somewhere between 4 and 5:30 p.m.: “what's for dinner tonight?”
The starting idea
Recipe apps offer thousands of ideas, but no menu. Planners offer an empty calendar. The grocery list is still often written by hand. The real work happens before the cooking: finding ideas, balancing the week, using what is left in the fridge, writing the list and forgetting nothing at the store. That load almost always falls on the same person in the household.
The arrival of generative AI made it possible to tackle the whole job: an assistant that actually organizes the week, from the menu to the grocery list, connected to real data rather than guesswork.
What the web version does
- Olive, Olivi's assistant, builds the weekly menu around the household's tastes, diets, allergies, budget and cooking time.
- The grocery list is generated from the menu, sorted by aisle and shared in real time.
- Family recipes, even handwritten ones, can be digitized from a single photo.
- Nutrition facts are calculated from Health Canada data. When a value is not reliable, Olivi shows nothing rather than a guess.
Olivi was born in Quebec and speaks its vocabulary, while also serving cooks in France in their own French. The web version is available at olivi.ca.
What comes next: iPhone and Android
The web is the starting point: it works on every device and makes it possible to build the product with its first users. The next step is to offer native apps for iPhone and Android, with the same account and the same data on every device, and with what a browser cannot provide: sharing a recipe from another app, a grocery list available offline and a timer that stays on screen while cooking.
